7 Things About Me: The Stupid School Years
When I saw this post, I knew I had to participate in the fun, even though I wasn't tagged. I bring you 7 little-known facts about this fashionista's childhood.
- I had my ears pierced when I was 6 months old. That's dedication to beauty/fashion, people. Dedication.
- My first language was Norwegian, albeit briefly. First word: "lys" which means "light" in Norwegian. Second word? "yite" which means "light" in baby-talk English. At least I'm consistent.
- In seventh grade, my first ex-boyfriend said I looked like an alien. I was wounded, but buoyed by friends' adamant insistence to the contrary. Looking at the above-right photo, I'm wondering if he was right all along.
- I was home-schooled during seventh and eighth grade. Best. Decision. Ever. Miss out on the awkwardly mean boy stage? Wear whatever I wanted with no dress code? Wake up at a reasonable time? Hells to the yeah!
- My first B was in high school biology. Crushed, I immediately decided I could never be a science person. I labeled myself as a Liberal Arts archetype and never looked back. Years later, I'm about to get my medical degree and am up to my eyeballs in science every day. Go figure.
- At the ripe age of 3, I was in church a few pews behind the King of Norway (King Olav). During a period of silent prayer, I, lost in deep thought, turned to my mother and said, at fully conversational volume, "Mommy, what does BOOGER start with?" His Majesty turned around and smiled. I didn't notice. I had bigger things on my mind. Like boogers.
- Most mortifying experience ever came in 2nd grade, when my mom woke me up, and said we were late. It was nearly Halloween so we were to wear our costumes to school. Having a penchant for pink, I had already chosen Miss Piggy. Huffing and puffing in my plastic Miss Piggy mask and pink plastic apron, I ran down the empty halls and flung open the classroom door to find...All of my classmates in our everyday uniforms. My mother had gotten the day wrong. I was beyond mortified. I wanted the ground to swallow me up. Since then I've never been able to dress up to costume parties thanks to the crippling fear that it will happen again.
